Mrs. Williams’ face lights up as she observes her 6th grade Math students collaborating in teams to solve one-step equations and find missing variables. They must be the first team to solve the mystery of the stolen shoes, and each problem solved means gaining a new clue!
The school culture is Mrs. Williams’ favorite thing about Kimmons.
“All of the staff and students are so welcoming and nice!” Mrs. Williams said. “I have never been in a school where EVERYONE is as awesome as KMS. I definitely feel like a part of the family, which makes me feel comfortable to learn and continue to grow.”
Ms. Welch – Mrs. Williams’ high school math teacher at Alma – inspired her to become an educator.
“We are still close to this day,” Mrs. Williams said. “She always made time for me and her other students and made us feel loved and heard, which helped me grow my love for Math. Ms. Welch taught me that as long as I help one child during my career, that is enough.”
The most memorable moment Mrs. Williams had was when she finally connected with a student who might be going through a hard time.
“I had a hard homelife growing up, so I can relate on many levels,” Mrs. Williams said. “Letting a student know that they are not alone and that they matter is a very important part of this job.”
Knowing that she may not always be able to reach every student is Mrs. Williams’ biggest challenge as a teacher.
“When you have over 100 students, it’s important to have personal relationships,” Mrs. Williams said. “It’s definitely hard when they’re absent a lot of days, catching them back up is so challenging.”
One surprising fact about Mrs. Williams is that she is a published author and especially loves writing children’s books and illustrating them.
“My newest eBook, The Enigma of Shadow House: Trapped in the Darkness, is now available on Amazon,” Mrs. Williams said. “It’s a tale about Abigail and three friends who embark on a harrowing journey into an abandoned house to liberate the young girl Elizabeth’s spirit and lay her to rest.”
Outside of school, Mrs. Williams enjoys spending time with her husband Nick and their three children.
“They are the reason that I get out of bed daily, ” Mrs. Williams said. “They are my WHY.”
