Born in Labrador, Canada, Mrs. Zeiger moved around with her Air Force husband: South Carolina, the Azores, Portugal, Michigan, Texas, and eventually here to Fort Smith. After twelve years teaching special education in Texas and at Northside High School, she has come to Kimmons as the new Reading Interventionist.

Mrs. Zeiger’s inspiration for becoming a teacher began in Texas.

“I worked at the Texas Workforce Center where many teens were unable to read,” Mrs. Zeiger said. “I wondered how one could graduate, yet have difficulty completing a job application.”

Mrs. Zeiger has some things people might not know about her.

“I am an Inuk (Eskimo) and have family all over the U.S. and Canada,” Mrs. Zeiger said.

This graduate from Spring Arbor University in Michigan hopes to improve reading scores here.

“One of the biggest challenges is getting every student tested in reading because of student schedules,” Mrs. Zeiger said.

Mrs. Zeiger feels that the staff has been quite friendly and cooperative.

“Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family,” Mrs. Zeiger said. “We go on hikes, play games, travel, visit museums, fish, and do outdoor work.”
