Students Get Energized at the Emoji Masquerade

Glow-in-the-dark neon colors bounced off the walls as teenagers cheered, danced, and sang along to their favorite songs at the Emoji Masquerade held in the tornado shelter in April. Student Council sponsored the dance. Students got to pick out an Emoji mask and received snacks and a drink. As soon as people walked in, they could feel all the energy going on, which just made them want to dance. Several took squad pictures so they could remember this one special night.

“I liked how much energy everybody had because that led to a good time,” Keyondre Stratford, 8th, said.

For some, just being with their favorite people made the dance worth attending.

“My favorite part was dancing and getting to hang out with my friends,” Sajdah Johnson, 8th, said.

At one point in the night, the DJ took things old school with the Village People’s “YMCA.”

“My favorite part was when everyone started the line dance and then danced in a circle because everyone was dancing together,” Lesly Mesa, 9th, said.
